Scammer Dressed as Orthodox Jew Arrested after Run-In with Synagogue, Jewish Bookstore

BROOKLINE, Mass. (myfoxboston) - Police arrested a 26-year-old New York man for allegedly trying to scam a Newton synagogue out of money, and stealing a Brookline storekeeper's iPhone.

Police say the man was part of a group of six men dressed as Orthodox Jews. They went to the Brookline shop asking for donations to a charity. That's when the alleged phone theft happened.

Authorities found the suspect in Newton after a rabbi called police when the same group asked his synagogue for money.
